2012 GALEN J. GAUNTLETT SCHOLARSHIP  Morgantown AES Federal Credit Union is proud to announce the offering of our first scholarship to our members. In honor of Mr. Galen J. Gauntlett, we will award one scholarship in the amount of $500.00 to one graduating high school student enrolled in an accredited college or university for the 2012-2013 academic year. REMINDER!   DEBIT CARD HOLDS Sometimes a member might see a hold on their funds because of a debit card purchase even though the transaction has not posted to their account, this is called a pre-authorization. A debit card pre-authorizationcan hold a members funds for up to 3 days. Gas stations can          pre-authorize an amount greater than the purchase amount. For example: if your account has $50.00 dollars and they put through a pre-authorization  for $80.00 and the transaction amount you purchase was only $20.00, it will hold the whole amount of the pre-authorization ($80.00). The hold could make your account be over drawn. If you have money in your savings a transfer will occur to cover the   pre-authorized amount. To reduce the chance of the merchant doing a pre-authorization, members should make all of their debit card purchases as a credit transaction. This will also reduce the potential of fraud since the credit transaction requires the member to sign.
